Audrey Pauline Faddis

May 3, 1917 ~ October 14, 2017 (age 100) 100 Years Old
Audrey Pauline Overturf Short Faddis was born on May 3, 1917 in Edgar, NE to Frank and Jenetta Hawkins Overturf. Five brothers followed in the next 17 years.

She passed at her home in Kuna on October 14.

She spent her childhood at various places in Nebraska and Iowa. In the summer of 1935, while living in Colon, NE, she met a young Wyoming man who was traveling through the area picking corn. She and Emmett Short were married December 21 that winter. They moved to Arvada, WY the next spring, where Emmett worked for several farmers/ranchers. In 1937, they got a government loan and bought their own farm. They also welcomed son James Edgar that summer. Dry land farming was not a way to get rich. Times were hard, but Saturday night dances and Wednesday night pinochle made it tolerable.

On New Year’s Eve in 1940, Emmett and his brother-in-law, Lowell, were loading a hay rack onto a sled so that they could feed cattle when Emmett experienced a cerebral hemorrhage and passed away. In March of 1941, the government sold all that Audrey owned to pay part of their loan.

In April, Audry married Gene Faddis. Gene worked for several farmers/ranchers, including his stepdad, before he began working for the railroad as a section hand. They helped maintain about 15 miles of track. Between 1942 and 1947, they welcomed sons Leo, Robert and Larry, and daughter Joy. During this time, home was two railroad cars attached end to end.

In 1952, the family moved to Richfield, ID. While there, Audrey was a school cook and worked at several businesses in town.

In 1969, Audrey and Gene bought a home in Boise. Audrey lived there and worked as a cook at St. Al’s. She also cooked at M-K for a while.

Gene still spent part of his time in Richfield, near where he was born, farming the place that his aunt and uncle had owned. Gene died in 1975. In 1979, Audrey bought a home in Kuna and moved next to son Robert and his family. She has lived there since.

She is survived by son Jim Short (Nena) of Boise, son Leo Faddis of Kuna, daughter-in-law Elaine Faddis of Prairie, daughter Joy Appell (Pete) of Richfield, plus 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, brother Gene Overturf (Donna) of Columbus, NE, and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 2 husbands, and sons Larry and Robert.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
