Dean Lorren Thompson

Dean Thompson, 92, of Boise, Idaho passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23rd at his home. Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather was born on February 8, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Parley Thompson and Roxie May Owen Thompson. Dean was the youngest of five children.

Dean was raised in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1943. Dean was a track star at Pocatello High and won a State Title in the Medley Relay. He graduated with honors in the top 10% of his class. After High School he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Yakutat from 1943-1946. On March 20th, 1944, Dean married his High School Sweetheart, Julia Maxcine Powell in Seattle, Washington where he was based. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 5th, 1944, while Dean was on leave.

After the War, Dean attended Pharmacy School at Idaho State College in Pocatello. After graduation from Pharmacy School in 1950, they moved around as Dean began his career. They lived in Jerome, Idaho; Meridian, Idaho; and Salt Lake City, Utah; before they settled down in their home on Acre Lane in Boise in 1958. Dean owned Sav-Mor Drug on Ustick Road and the entire family helped out running the Store. He retired in 1995.

Dean lived a life of service and devotion to his family, friends and Church. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities in the Church. Dean and Maxcine served in the Boise Idaho Temple for 13 years. They also enjoyed music and sang in every Ward Choir that they lived in.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife Maxcine, son Lynn, granddaughter Marjon, his Parents Parley & Roxie, brothers Lee and Elden and his Sister Fern.

Dean is survived by his Sister Jessie Thompson Powell and his Children: Craig (Carol) Thompson of West
Jordan, Utah; Susan (David) Gardner of Boise; Juliadean (Bryan) Millar of Nampa; Paul (Cindi) Thompson of Mapleton, Utah; Karl (Angie) Thompson of Boise; Lorri (Brent) Carr of Boise; and Marcine (Scott) Markus of Nampa. Dean and Maxcine raised 8 children and they have been blessed with 36 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren.

During his final weeks, each one of his children and many of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were able to gather at his bedside to bid him a tender farewell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 27, at the LDS Chapel located at 6711 W. Northview Street in Boise. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. The Family will also greet friends on Friday, January 26, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah, Boise. Interment will follow the service at Dry Creek Cemetery.
