Dick Harper Wright passed away peacefully of natural causes at home on October 8, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Dick was born June 27, 1929 in Twin Falls, Idaho as the 4th of 6 children to Mary and Isaac Leon Wright. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Kendall and Ted. Surviving siblings are Mary Jane, Mailon, and Shirley.
He began his Army service in 1852. Dick received the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, and Commendation Ribbon with medal pendant. At the time of his honorable discharge, he was a Sergeant First Class.
He attended Utah State Agricultural School, Ricks College, and Los Angeles State College. He received a Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting.
Dick married Jeanette Gardner on August 18, 1955 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They were the parents of 4 children, Larry, Lyle (Teresa), Jennifer (Steve), and Penny (Todd). Jeanette and Dick were later divorced. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, soon to be 6. He raised Jennifer and Penny as a single parent.
Dick was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a 2 ½ year mission in the Spanish American Mission in Texas from 1949 to 1952. He served in many positions in the church, taught seminary, and served in the Boise, Idaho Temple for many years. He was very active in scouting. Dick served in the extraction of Spanish records for Family History and Temple Work.
After retirement, Dick moved to Meridian, Idaho where he lived with his daughter, Penny, and her family until the time of his death. He loved gardening, working in the temple, collecting church newspaper articles, and spending time with family.
