She was the daughter of Charles M. Housel and Vera C. Hanson.  Dorene was born in Salt Lake City, Utah On May 27, 1928.
When she was 3 years old the family bought a farm in Richfield, Idaho where she also attended school.  She then went to Roy, Utah to work in the WW 11 war factory at the Hill Air Force Base.
She then married and had five children.  They remember fondly coming home from school to the smells of her wonderful home made bread and other goodies.
Dorene met and married the love of her life Tommie Johnson in 1968.  They lived in Pocatello Idaho for most of their married life.
Dorene was a very talented lady.  She was an artist, seamstress, and loved to crochet.  She made beautiful baby afghans and clothes and gave them to her children, grandchildren as well as other family members and friends. She also loved reading and writing poems and gardening.
Dorene was accepted into the Practical Nursing Program at the LDS Hospital in 1967.  She almost had her degree when she met and married Tom and decided not to work for awhile.  Later she worked at a nursing home for many years and then in Home Health.  In 1981 she got her Certified Nursing Degree .  She also ran a Senior Shelter Home in Bellevue Idaho.
She held many callings in the LDS church.  She was in the Relief Society Presidency, worked in Young Women, Primary and with the Cub Scouts.  She also worked in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple from Aug of 1994 to Aug of 1995.
Dorene went to live at the Overland Senior Living Facility in October of 2015 where she passed away with family around her. Our sincere thanks to the Staff of Overland who loved and cared for our mother for those years.
