Welcome to the memorial page for

Jan Brian Evans

March 5, 1941 ~ September 20, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years Old
Jan was born in Preston, Idaho to Carl Reese and Florence "Flossie" Thomas Evans - joining two doting sisters, Kaye and Sheila.

Jan graduated from high school in Tooele, Utah. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Jan helped his parents with their farm outside Downey, Idaho in the summers, an occupation he returned to for many years when his wanderlust ways deterred him from the traditional 9-5. Jan earned a master’s degree from the University of Utah in 1965. After that, he moved to Colorado, where he enrolled in a Ph.D. program and worked for IBM, selling Selectric typewriters.

When Jan was just 28 years old, he quit school, cashed in his retirement, and spent three years gallivanting around western Europe, forming lifelong friendships and financing his skiing habit by teaching typewriting classes at the American College in Lausanne, Switzerland.
After his European adventures, J.B. returned stateside and met Sheral Adams in Des Moines, Iowa in the summer of 1972. They sailed around the Bahamas for several months before he wooed her to Idaho, where they spent their summers on the farm and their winters in the Wood River Valley.

J.B. and Sheral were married in 1981. They welcomed a daughter, Alison, in 1982, and twin girls, Texie and Josephine, in 1983. Being a father was his greatest accomplishment and the role that gave his life the most purpose. J.B. and Sheral moved their young family to Boise in 1985.

J.B. returned to the Wood River Valley in 1999. He spent many wonderful years with Linda Oken, and they remained best friends after his return to the Treasure Valley. J.B. moved back to Boise in 2010 to be near his daughters, just before his first grandchild was born.

J.B. loved horses, being an uncle, skiing, drinking Coors original, practicing yoga, listening to classical music, and reading the New Yorker.

J.B. is preceded in death by his parents, Floss and Carl, his daughters' mother, Sheral, and a few of his best friends. He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Kaye & Carter Foss and Sheila & Ned Stephens; his daughters and sons-in-law, Alison & Ryan McCall, Texie & Nic Montoya, and Josie & Elliott Graham; three grandsons, Louie Graham, Mac McCall, and Dylan Montoya; two granddaughters (with one on the way), Rita Graham and Daisy McCall; his brothers-in-law Bruce and Sam Adams and Bill Duffy; 6 nieces, 7 nephews, and countless friends and cousins.

J.B. requested no funeral services and a party with friends and family. Please join us at Bowden Park in Boise on Saturday, 9/30 - contact his family for details.
