John Martin Moore, 84, of Boise, Idaho passed away peacefully Friday, March 10, 2017 of natural causes. John was born in Cedar Rapids, IA to Mary Martha Moore and Clifford Charles Moore. He grew up in Cedar Rapids graduating from Wilson High School then joining the US Air Force where he served during the Korean War. He graduated with a BA in Biology from Iowa State University. John married Janice Mary Bowers on December 27, 1959 in Ames, IA.
John worked as a lab technician for Fairmont Foods in Marshfield, WI; Eldorado, KS; Lincoln, NE; and Lawton, OK. He then worked for Good Humor Ice Cream in Chicago, IL followed by Economic Laboratories in Lincoln, NE. John was an expert in dairy production and an avid cheese connoisseur. He fell in love with Boise after visiting for a job interview in the 1970s where he then moved his family after taking a position with Idaho Farmer Stockman Insurance. John’s never-ending cheerfulness and outgoing personality ensured success as a sales executive. He was one of those people that could talk to a stranger like he had known them all of their life.
John found joy in gardening, Steelhead fishing, and all of the other outdoor activities that Idaho has to offer. He loved Boise State football and basketball, and was also a passionate supporter of Iowa State athletics. After retiring in 2001, John enjoyed a relaxed lifestyle working in his vegetable garden and spending quality time with his wife of over 57 years. John was a fine role model for those that knew him. His disarming sense of humor will be sorely missed by all of us.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Moore; granddaughter, Sarah Moore; son, Charles Moore; daughter-in-law, Lyn Moore; sister, Leota Moore; and brother, Clifford Moore.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Bowers Moore; brothers Bobby Moore, Hillard Moore, and Mike Moore.
A private family service will be held at Pioneer Cemetery in Idaho City, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel.
