On February 16, 2017, LeRae Patterson Nelson passed away peacefully after a long battle with multiple medical issues.
LeRae was born in Montpelier, Idaho, April 22, 1939; the oldest child of LeRoy and Loye Patterson. She started school in Blackfoot, Idaho and finished in Idaho Falls. After graduating from high school she worked at a dental office. She was crowned Miss Idaho Falls in 1957 and went on to be 2nd runner up in Miss Idaho pageant. She was a beautiful and elegant young woman.
LeRae always worked very hard. She worked for Idaho Power and then at an accounting firm. When the accounting firm reorganized she decided to go back to college. She got her bachelor’s degree in accounting and passed the CPA exam on her first try. She then worked for the Idaho Legislative Auditors Office and then for the Idaho National Guard as the Comptroller. She was successful and loved by her co-workers. She remained with the National Guard until she retired in 2009.
LeRae loved to travel and spend time at her parent’s vacation home at IP Bills Island in Island Park. She traveled to Hawaii and Europe with family.
Early in 2009, LeRae got a little companion and name her Chester. Chester, “Chessie” is a miniature schnauzer. Chessie brought LeRae a great deal of comfort and happiness. After retiring, LeRae moved to California to be with her daughter, Collette. She was excited to be closer to Collette and her grandchildren. She returned to Meridian in October 2015, residing at Spring Creek Assisted Living. In July 2016, she moved to Genesis Meridian Center where she lived until her death. The family would like to thank those who provided good care in her last several months of life. LeRae grew to love her long term care givers at Genesis and Encompass Hospice. A very special thanks to Sherry, Brandon, Marie and Amy.
LeRae is survived by her brother Kent Patterson (Lynette), daughter Collette Copes (Kevin); and three granddaughters, Rachel Copes, Jillian Holst (Justin), and Brianne Copes; two great grandchildren, Audrey and Wyatt Holst. She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Loye Patterson; sister, Karin Wissmiller, and daughter Heidi.
Funeral services will be held February 25, 2017 at 12 noon, with a visitation one hour before at the Locust Grove LDS Church located at 1695 Amity Road, Meridian, Idaho.
