Sylvia Marjorie Moe

Sylvia Moe, age 98, was born in Cottage Grove, OR, on Oct. 28, 1919, to Edgar James Scofield and Stella Margaret Hinkley. She was the youngest of six children, two of whom died as infants. At age 4, the family moved to Twin Falls, ID, where Sylvia graduated from high school in 1937. In 1943, she joined he US Navy and worked in the fleet post office in San Diego for two years, after which she married Reo Jensen of Burley, whom she had the previously met in 1939. Both started college together under the GI bill. After three years of college, Reo unexpectedly passed away. They had been married only six years. Sylvia completed her bachelor’s degree in education at Humboldt State College and completed requirements in two years for a certificate in Occupational Therapy from San Jose State College. She worked for three years at the VA Hospital in San Fernando, CA, and 20 years at the hospital in Tacoma, WA. It was here that she met and married Carl Oscar Moe, which lasted for 28 years. After his death in 1989, she moved to Boise, ID. Sylvia owned a home in Boise for a few years; then at age 72, she decided to move to a retirement center. As her health progressed, she then moved to Spring Creek Ustick in Meridian, where she passed away on Dec. 27, 2017, with close friends near along with her closest companion – Mollie, the cat.

Sylvia converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized June 1, 1953. She held many teaching positions in the church and served with her husband as Ordinance Workers for five years. Sylvia was a very independent person, full of vigor to the end and showed great compassion for others. She will be greatly missed. Sylvia will be buried next to her first husband, Reo, in Rupert, ID.

She is survived by nieces and one nephew.

There will be a graveside service on Sat., Dec. 30, 2017, at 12 noon at the Rupert Cemetery, 450 N. Meridian, in Rupert, ID. Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel.
