Ethel Mae Miles

May 8, 1934 ~ May 13, 2021 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Ethel Mae Miles, 87, passed away May 13, 2021 in Boise, ID.

Ethel was born on May 8, 1934 to Henry and Clara Jasper in Filer, ID. She grew up with 2 brothers (Dale & Cleo) and 2 sisters (Margie & Jeanene) and graduated from Filer High.

She married Theron Brown, her high school sweetheart, in October 1952. While Theron was in the Air Force, they lived in Albuquerque, Spokane, Salt Lake City and Pocatello. They settled in Rupert, where they raised their three daughters, Sherry, Carol and Mary.

Ethel was a very involved member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as the church secretary for 19 years. Previous to that, she worked in the Bindery at the Minidoka County News. The family spent many wonderful summer vacations camping, fishing and hiking in the Wood River area. Ethel loved gardening and sewing. She sewed most of her girls’ pants, blouses, dresses, a suit coat for Theron, quilts, Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls and many cloth toys for her grandkids.

After Theron passed in 1980, Ethel met Chuck Miles through Parents Without Partners, and they were married in 1989. She moved to Idaho Falls and joined Hope Lutheran Church, where she made many friends. She was introduced to rubber stamping and her creativity blossomed. She stamped, cut, colored and embossed all of the unique and beautiful birthday, any occasion and Christmas greeting cards for years. Ethel and Chuck loved to travel and saw many parts of the United States and Europe. They bought a place in Yuma, AZ, and spent the winters there. Ethel was involved in stamping classes, shuffleboard, bingo and even tried belly dancing and watercolor lessons. She also took up the game of golf. They especially enjoyed game nights with all their friends. After Chuck passed away, Ethel’s daughters drove her back and forth to Yuma for a few more years, until she finally moved to Boise to be closer to her family.

Ethel had a great sense of humor and was a kind, classy lady. She was a whiz at crossword puzzles, scrabble and Wheel of Fortune - there was never a word she couldn’t spell.

Ethel is survived by daughters Sherry (Chris) Iverson, Carol (Dan) Reagle and Mary Garcia; sister Jeanene Gibson and brother Dale (Betty) Jasper; grandchildren Jon (Kara) Pruett, Lacy (Karl) Casolari, Sam (Deena) Reagle and Savanah Reagle; and 4 great-grandchildren, Ruby, Jackson, Starr and Chelsea.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Margie and Cleo, husbands Theron and Chuck, and son-in-law Javier Garcia.

Special thanks to Harrison’s Hope Hospice for their loving care.

Graveside service at the Rupert Cemetery will be scheduled later in the summer.
