Allan Podolan

June 13, 1952 ~ May 17, 2023 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Tribute

Allan Podolan passed away May 17, 2023 in Boise, Idaho. He was born June 13, 1952 at home in the woods of the township of Delta in Northern Wisconsin to Frank and Janet Podolan.

He spent his childhood days running loose in the woods, climbing trees and hanging out with Cleo the cat and numerous dogs throughout the years. He grew up hunting, fishing and enjoying the pristine quiet of the Northern Wisconsin woods.

He was born with a love for cars and would hang out with friends for hours building model cars, crashing them and building them again and his love and knowledge of cars would grow exponentially over the years.

He attended the University of Wisconsin, Superior and then enlisted in the Air Force in the early 70’s and would eventually land at Mountain Home AFB in Mountain Home, Idaho. He was an Avionics Technician and found a community of friends that would remain his friends for his entire life.

He eventually moved to Boise where he worked for Hewlett-Packard for many years as both an Electronics Technician and a writer/draftsman for LaserJet printer manuals.

He was an amazing artist, draftsman and storyteller and one could sit for hours listening to the tales of his day or of a recent trip.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, rock hounding, kite flying on the beach and black powder shooting. He was also a lover of cats and they would find their way to him wherever he was. He had many loving felines throughout his life.

But most of all, he loved classic cars. He could tell you the name of almost any old car as it would drive by and was involved in several car clubs including Death Traps, Treasure Valley Kustoms and Silhouettes. His classic car circle of friends ranged far and wide. He had many “project” cars, but his favorite driver was a 1954 Ford F100, lovingly known as “The Purple Truck”.

Allan’s curiosity and passion for kustom cars was infectious and the sparkle of wonderment and excitement never left Al’s spirit. He was not necessarily the builder, but was the overseer in the corner keeping a mindful eye on the progress of the next latest creation. His knowledge and eye for design was a key component. He was mysterious to those who knew him, but a protector to those he surrounded himself with. The innocence and wonder that burst out of his brilliant blue eyes would sparkle with encouragement and enthusiasm with the projects and plans of his friends.

Allan leaves behind a giant void in his family, friend and car community.

Allan is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Janet Podolan. He is survived by his brother Dale (Lee) Podolan of Eagle, his sister Diane (David) Kulin of Meridian and nephews Christopher and Mathew Kulin.

His ashes will be interred at the Pike River Cemetery in Delta, Wisconsin.

A Memorial Car Show and Air Force flag folding ceremony will be held at Lakeview Park in Nampa, ID on June 25th, 2023 from 11:00 - 4:00.
