Carlos Ilmen Montgomery

July 31, 1955 ~ May 14, 2019 (age 63)

Carlos I. Montgomery, 63, was born in Anton, Panama, on July 31, 1955, to Tom and Anna Montgomery. Carlos passed away on May 14, 2019, of natural causes.

Carlos’ parents moved from Panama in 1959 to New York, and in his words, it was his first encounter with snow. As a child, he remembered thinking that it was ice cream. Carlos’ father, Tom, was in the military and he remembers moving a lot.

Carlos joined the Army when he was 17. He served his country for over 23 years in the Army and retired as an E-6. He served during the Vietnam Era but never went overseas in combat. Carlos was a Motor Transportation Operations Specialist. After retiring from the Army, he worked various jobs and finally retired from the Johnson Drywall Company.

Carlos married Barbara Diana Nichols on October 3, 1975, in Furth, Germany, when he was stationed in the Army. It was during these first years of their lives together that Robert and Steven were born. Later, the family moved when Carlos was redeployed to Fort Lewis, Washington. Then in 1982, they returned to Nuremberg, Germany, where their third son, Jeffery, was born. In 1986, Carlos was redeployed back to the United States and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Their son, Kevin, was born during this period in their lives. Carlos retired from the Army while stationed at Fort Dix in 1992. Carlos and his family then moved to Boise, Idaho. In 1994, their fifth child, Diana, was born, and the family was complete with the daughter that Barbara had always wanted. Carlos and Barbara were married for 43 years before she passed away on October 31, 2018.

Carlos is survived by his brothers Nelson and Henry Montgomery, his sister Nina Lewis, his sons Robert, Steven (Laurie), Jeffery (Kaela), Kevin (Jessa), his daughter, Diana and also 11 grandchildren. Carlos is preceded in death by his mother, Anna Montgomery, and his wife Barbara.
