On the afternoon of September 15, 2022, Carol Ellen (Barber) Hammond was reunited with her sweetheart, Melvin Hammond, at the age of 85. Carol was born on March 21, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Walter Horace Barber and Lucille Hatch. She was the youngest of 3 daughters. Carol is preceded in death by her husband Melvin; parents; and both sisters and their husbands: Mary Lou Hayes (Jim Hayes) and Ruth Fisher-Fewkes (Don Fisher and Eldred Fewkes). She is survived by her 2 daughters, Susan Anderson (Steve) and Colleen Ursenbach (Bruce),10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. All of whom she loved dearly. Countless others also called her "Mom." Her home was always a revolving door for friends and family.
Carol married Melvin Hammond in the Los Angeles Temple on December 4, 1958. They cared for nieces, nephews, and neighbors as though they were their own. Nearly 10 years after their marriage, they were blessed with 2 daughters. They later moved their family to El Cajon, California, to be closer to both sets of parents, who were experiencing health problems. Carol and Melvin later relocated to Boise, Idaho, to be with their daughters and their families.
Carol was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a strong testimony of the Gospel. She served faithfully in numerous church callings and served two stake missions. She worked in a variety of settings that provided her with skills she used later in life as a wife and mother. In 1991, Carol began working as a CNA in a nursing home and continued until the age of 78.
Carol loved horses, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, strolling through cemeteries, and spending time with her family. She never failed to leave others with a smile and served selflessly. She endured every hardship with faith and good humor.
Family was everything to Carol, and she knew one pot of her homemade noodles would have them running over and gathering around her kitchen table in a matter of minutes. She loved to tease and joke around with everyone. Life with Carol was never boring and always memorable. Oh, how she loved adventures and shenanigans! She truly treasured every moment with her family and leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. Carol will be dearly missed.
