Cerys Alya MacTaggart

Cerys Alya MacTaggart was born on January 23, 2014 ~ a gift to her adoring parents, Jenny and Joshua, and her brothers, Killian and Rowan. Cerys was an unexpected spark of life sent to light up her family and everyone around her.

A sweet light, both kind and silly from the very beginning, it was clear that Cerys’ purpose in life was to share her smile, hugs, laughter, immense love, and the light that she so brightly reflected each day. She was a lovely little girl with a compassionate heart. Always reaching out to help those in need, and no matter where Cerys went, she would make a new friend.

Cerys was passionate in her creative expression of many forms, including singing, dancing, painting, drawing, and writing stories. Among her favorite hobbies, Cerys loved swimming, playing soccer, doing crafts, solving math equations, and camping with her family (as long as hot dogs were involved). For most of Cerys’ life, it was common to find her in costume, beginning with princesses and progressing to Star Wars characters, mermaids, ninjas, spies, and her brother Rowan’s favorite, underwear superheroes.

In school, Cerys participated in the dual language program at Whittier Elementary, learning both English and Spanish. Through this program, she found a connection with Hispanic culture that permeated her soul, leaving her teachers wondering why she was not just born Hispanic to begin with.

One of Cerys’ favorite places to spend time was at Zoo Boise, and she never met a dog she didn’t like, so much so that her first word spoken was “puppy.” Cerys was absolutely in love with all animals, frequently letting us know that when she grew up, she was going to be a veterinarian.

Even though her life on earth was short, Cerys shared with us so much. She is survived by a loving group of friends, family, teachers, and classmates, including loving parents, siblings, grandparents, 22 cousins, 18 aunts and uncles, and her dog Masha.

A celebration for Cerys’ life will be held as follows:

Visitation on Sunday, June 26, 5:00-7:00pm, at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah St., Boise.

Memorial service on Monday, June 27, 11:00am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 3229 N. Bogus Basin Rd., Boise.

Graveside service on Tuesday, June 28, 1:00pm, at the Rexburg Cemetery, 350 W. Moran View Rd., Rexburg.
