Charles (Chuck) Ellis Wake

October 29, 1943 ~ May 23, 2023 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

Our handsome cowboy, husband, dad, grandpa and brother, slipped through the veil on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, to meet his loved ones and enjoy a glorious reunion on the other side. We know how happy he must be to finally shed his pain and the frailties of his 79 years to walk and run and ride and rope once more as he had always loved to do. How happy he must be to feel the peace of a kind Heavenly Father’s arms around him, knowing his mission on earth had been one of loving service, and faithful endurance to the end.

Charles Ellis Wake was born October 29th, 1943, in Afton, Wyoming. He attended elementary and middle school in both Wyoming and Utah and high school in Blackfoot, Idaho. He attended Utah State University and then got his draft notice. He enlisted in the Air Force and was trained as a Medic.

In 1959, at the age of 15, he met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Marianne Farnes. After seven years, they began their married life adventure and moved to Pasadena, California. After three years in California, they moved to Boise, Idaho, and remained there until his death.

Chuck owned both commercial and residential plumbing companies until 1993 when they opened The Mortgage Company. They retired from mortgages in 2009, and Chuck shortly after, went to work delivering with ESI. This was probably his favorite job because of the fun and kindness of the employees. He worked until the start of Covid and then retired for good.

Chuck was a great athlete. He was good at everything he tried. In baseball, he played catcher in high school and was awarded a scholarship in college and played with a semi-pro team.

He loved horses. The family spent a lot of summers at the racetrack with his racehorse. The winnings were slim, but the family had such great memories. He had many horses over the years and was an amazing horseman. He team sorted, team penned and roped. Nearly every week of the summer for about 15 years, he competed in various events. Marianne was always by his side cheering him on.

In the fall, he and his boys went hunting. The boys used to say “only buy groceries for Chuck for a couple of days because he always wants to go home early to be with Marianne.” The boys stayed hunting for a week, and Chuck went home. They were nearly always successful and have great stories to tell about their hunting adventures.

Chuck was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had many callings from Primary Teacher, Counselor in the Bishopric twice, and Stake High Council for six years.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years and his children: Tiffiny Dayton (Kraig), Todd Wake (Nicole), Nicole Conklin (Scott), Natalie Nelson (Tyler), Korbin Wake and Kalli Wake. He has 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Sara Mitchell, and her children, Brock Howerton, Page DuBose and Dawn Howerton.
