Tribute

In Mojave, CA, David Sherod Bailey was born March 24, 1954, the 6th of 9 children, to Emogene and Donald Perry Bailey. David was a sweet child, who liked to daydream and play with his Army men.

David saw Theresa Annette Lewis at the Harvest Ball, and they began their courtship. David would drive 297 miles, one way, from Woodland, CA, to Bakersfield, CA, to see Theresa every weekend while they were dating. David and Theresa married in the Los Angeles Temple on October 27, 1973. Together, they have 6 children and 7 grandchildren. They have been married for 49 years.

David worked in an underground copper mine in Arizona from 1974-1980. He sold insurance annuities in Texas from 1980-1982. He worked for the Bakersfield Californian from 1982-1995. He worked for Micron Technologies in Boise, ID, from 1995-2021. David retired from Micron in December 2021.

David was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He always served in a calling. He served as Bishop from 1991-1995. His last, and favorite, calling was as a teacher in the primary.

David had many hobbies, including: woodcarving, sailing, collecting and reading books, mountain climbing, and running. His favorite foods included ice cream, limeade, root beer, Theresa’s homemade pasta e fagioli soup, and Kung Pao Chicken.

You could always hear David using his favorite sayings: “Aint we got fun!” and “Singular!”.

David was a kind, loyal, and humble man. He was hard working, full of integrity, took great pride in his work, had a great knowledge of the scriptures, believed in the freedoms provided by the Constitution, and loved to give service. He was always the first to volunteer when someone needed help.

David loved many things, including: classical literature, all kinds of movies and music, nature, sight-seeing, hiking, studying the scriptures, and Hawaiian shirts. Most of all, David loved his family, his religion, and his Savior.
