David Harter

August 14, 1950 ~ November 2, 2019 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Tribute

David Dean Harter of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Dave was born August 14, 1950, in Portland, Oregon, and was adopted by Virgil and Margaret Harter. He spent the first four years of his life in Walla Walla, Washington.

Dave grew up in Weiser and Payette, Idaho. His parents were active members of The Seventh Day Adventist Church. He attended church school in Payette (1st – 8th) and then attended Gem State Academy in Caldwell, Idaho (9th – 11th) grade. He finished and graduated his final year at Payette High School.

Virgil and Margaret owned a hot springs pool in Weiser, where Dave spent many a joyful summer. He helped with the running of the pool, taught swim lessons and with maintaining the grounds around the pool.

Dave was a lover of baseball. His Aunt Ginger would take him to San Francisco Giants games when he was young, where he would collect baseball cards and players’ signatures. He also was a Chicago Cubs fan. He was quite elated when he was able to see them play at Wrigley Field.

Several times in Dave’s life, he made an attempt to find his biological family only to be met by a dead end. Finally, at age 66, he made another attempt and met with success. He has been able to bond with three biological brothers and a sister and many nephews and nieces – some here in Boise.

Dave loved being a grandpa. He loved kidding with his grandchildren, and they loved giving it right back.

Dave also loved being able to travel with his wife Carol to national parks and hiking, biking and kayaking.

Dave worked at various jobs as a salesman. He made friends wherever he went, and you could not go anywhere where he would not run into someone he knew.

He volunteered this last year at the Corpus Christi day shelter helping to serve breakfast and shopping, where he found much satisfaction.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glen, his biological parents, one brother and one sister.

Dave leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Carol Collett Harter; two daughters, Joni Harter Thurston and Julia Harter; two sons, Paul Harter and Thomas Harter; five grandchildren, Brandon, Porter, Brooklynn, Amya and Eli; three brothers, Don (Shirley) Harter, Doug Brown and Dwayne Brown; and one sister, Debbie Brown Dale.

Memorial services to honor and celebrate his life will be held Friday, November 8, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah St., Boise, with a visitation time from 1:00 p.m. before the service.

Donations in Dave’s name can be made to the Corpus Christi House in Boise.
