Tribute

Debbie Flynn was born March 21, 1957, in Ontario, Oregon, to Jean and George Flynn. She was raised on a homestead in Fruitland, Idaho, with her three sisters, Anna, Glenna and Vickie. They grew up with many different farm animals, horses, and pets over the years. As Debbie got older, in middle school, she took an interest in music and art. After high school, she attended TVCC in Ontario and then Boise State University. She majored in art and advertising. During this time in Boise, she met her future husband Steve Chojnacky, who was working as a diesel mechanic for Kenworth. They eventually married on June 1, 1985. Debbie worked for several advertising agencies before taking a job with Ore-Idaho Foods, working with packaging design and product advertising.

Debbie and Steve remained in Boise and in 1991 had their son Jeffrey. After Jeff was born, she took a break from the corporate world, deciding her true calling was teaching. By becoming a teacher, she had the ability to spend more time with family and raise her son. She continued her education at BSU, earning a bachelor’s degree along with a master’s degree in Education. Over the next 20 years, she continued teaching at several middle schools and high schools in Boise, spending most of the time teaching art, ceramics, and photography at Borah High School, where she retired in 2018. Debbie was active with Soroptimist Civic Organization, Idaho Art Education Association, and National Education Association. She was also involved with their church, St. John’s Cathedral, as a Eucharistic Minister. Her hobbies were gardening, growing flowers, creating art, ceramics, and photography. She liked camping, fishing, and loved to go on vacation to the Oregon Coast, always planning one or two trips to the coast per year with the family. Debbie absolutely adored her granddaughter Addison and was always spending time with her throughout the year.

Debbie also enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with Steve on their Harleys and especially loved traveling through the Pacific Northwest to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She and Steve made a lot of lifelong friends in the Harley Owner’s Group and participated in many club activities and rides over the years.

Debbie was preceded in death by both her parents, sisters Glenna Selover, Vickie Corr, and Anna Wood. In addition, her brother-in-law Clinton and nephew Nathan had also passed away. Surviving relatives are Steve, her husband of 37 years, son Jeff and his family Addison and Jammie, niece Brandy Selover, nephews Bill & Steve Corr, brother-in-law Bob Corr, many cousins from the Flynn side of the family, and dozens of Chojnacky relatives whom she was close with.
