Dixie Kay Garvin

Dixie Kay Garvin, 86, passed to the next life on September 14, 2022. She loved to entertain, garden, camp, play games, and laugh. She loved her pet dogs and always had a poodle to keep her company. She also loved to collect antiques, Asian art and collectables, as well as white rocks from the mountains that her husband would dig up and carry home to put in her yard. She brought cheer to the lives of many with her contagious laugh!

Graveside services will be held Thursday, 11:00 am, September 29, 2022, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery located at 10100 N Horseshoe Bend Rd, Boise, ID 83714.

Dixie was born June 10, 1936, in Lehi, Utah, to Walter Neugebauer Steffen and Vina Conley. Dixie resided in the Boise area for most of her adult life. She attended Pocatello High School. As a youth and young adult, she enjoyed roller skating, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and embroidery. She also learned to play the piano.

Dixie married Farrell M. “Bud” Garvin June 4, 1962. Together, they raised five children in Boise. As a family, they loved to camp in and explore the mountains of Idaho. After their children were raised, Dixie and Bud loved to relax by camping in the Cascade/Donnelly area.

Dixie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served for many years as a Ward Organist and Relief Society pianist. Dixie also served as a temple worker in the Boise, Idaho LDS Temple.

Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter Eugene Steffen, her beloved husband Bud, and her son Cary Garvin. She is survived by her children Stephanie (Mark) Seader, Kim Garvin, Kelly Garvin, and Steven (Nancy) Garvin.
