Tribute

Eileen E. Tromp, 95, of Boise Idaho, passed away at home on April 25, 2024.  Born in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, on April 26, 1928 to Jacob and Mary (Pavola) Saari, she was a proud 1946 graduate of Harding High, where she played in the band and was a cheerleader.  She served as a switchboard operator for Ohio Bell, sometimes working on roller skates to quickly connect circuits for phone calls. She married the love of her life, Hans August Tromp, on November 24, 1956. He preceded her in death in 2001. Eileen loved polka music and dancing, mystery movies, Scrabble, crime reporting, politics, and the news. She cherished her family with all her heart.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Tromp and Marlene Tromp; her grandson, Jacob Hans Tromp-Chacko; and her sister-in-law, Anita Kidder; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  She was the remaining member of her large Finnish family.

A memorial service will be held in Boise, ID, on Sunday, April 28, 2024 in the Stueckle Sky Center on Boise State University’s campus at 2:30 pm.  Her funeral will be held on May 11, 2024 at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home in Granville, Ohio, at 1:00 pm.  She will be interred beside her beloved husband in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville in a private family ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association to advance research that will help people maintain their lives and memories or to the True Blue Student Scholarship at Boise State to help students achieve their dreams of a college education, as she did for her daughters.
