Erma Hegstrom Nielsen Heward

Our beloved Mother passed away peacefully on April 3, 2021, at the age of 92.

Erma Elizabeth Hegstrom was born August 11, 1928, in Central (Caribou County), Idaho. She was the ninth of ten children born to Gustaf and Elsa Hegstrom. The family moved to the Kuna area shortly thereafter, and Erma was raised there. After graduating from Kuna High School, she moved to Boise. She went to work for the State of Idaho Tax Office.

Erma married her eternal companion, Theodore Nielsen, on August 28, 1948. They were sealed in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple on July 1, 1963. A son and daughter were born to this loving union (Andrew Nielsen and Patricia Tuttle) – plus Erma acquired two stepdaughters (Sharon Nielsen-Caldwell and Roberta Johnson). Ted preceded her in death on January 25, 1989.

Erma then met Alfred Heward, and they married October 1990. This too was a happy union, and Erma acquired a stepson and stepdaughter (Lee Heward and Shauna Farrando) whom she loved very much. Alfred passed away May 27, 2005.

Erma retired at the age of 63 from the Finch-Brown 3M Company after 34 years in 1991. Erma had many hobbies and lived life to the fullest.

Erma is survived by her son Andy (Christy) and daughter Patty (Larry), three grandchildren - Gus, Theo and Jordan, three great-grandchildren, beloved sister Eleanor Wilkinson, sisters-in-law Virginia Hegstrom and Nadine Hegstrom, and a large number of wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, her parents, and her four sisters and four brothers.

Erma was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
