Be the first to offer your condolences on Gary's Tribute Wall
On Saturday, July 16, 2022, Gary Dean Richardson, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away in the comfort of his home in Boise, ID, at the age of 82.
Gary was born November 4, 1939, to Warren and Bonnie Richardson in Dodge City, KS. The family moved to Crescent City, CA, where he was raised with his 2 brothers and sister. He attended University of Oregon where he met the love of his life Jane Ryder. Gary and Jane were married September 9, 1961, in Eugene, OR, and were blessed with 4 children, Rodney, Randall, Timothy and Julie.
Gary and Jane started their family with Rod in 1964, followed by Randy in 1966, while living in Eugene. Sadly, Randy passed away at just 7 weeks old. In 1968, Gary and Jane settled in Boise to grow and raise their family. Rod was joined by brother Tim in 1968 and sister Julie in 1970.
Gary served in the US Army and then started his working career in sales. He was a top salesman for Allstate Insurance. He also excelled in RV sales for Kit Manufacturing, Fireball and Fleetwood Homes. His sales career took him and his family to Texas, Idaho and Oregon. Gary’s final career was that of a real estate developer/broker with his partner Mike O’Conner. Gary, along with son Rod, started Patio Covers Unlimited in Boise in 1993. With Gary’s guidance and great business sense, he helped create a family business that is still successful 29 years later. Gary led his son Tim into the RV business where he has seen great success. His daughter Julie obtained her real estate license and continues to thrive following in her dad’s footsteps.
Gary played golf 3-4 times a week, mainly at Plantation Country Club, where he was a member for 40 plus years. Everyone knew him around the club because of his love of the game, and he stood out because he was a left-handed golfer. Gary and Tim won multiple Father/Son tournaments at Plantation Country Club, and they were always competitive in the Member/Guest tournament. In addition to playing tournaments at the club, he traveled around the state to compete. Gary was a true gentleman and always very respectful of his playing partners. Gary’s favorite pastime, other than golf, was fishing. He loved to go on trips with his buddies, spending the day on the boat and the evening playing cards. He made many memories with Rod and Julie fishing for steelhead and salmon in Rod’s boat on the Clearwater and Columbia rivers.
Gary is survived by his wife Jane, three children, Rod (Angela), Tim (Tonya), and Julie, eight grandchildren, Justin (Lorraine), Kory (Janelle), Austin, Alex (Liz), Tia (Drake), Peyton, Sydney and Trevor and 5 great-grandchildren, his brother Lee (Sharon), his sister Patty, his sister-in-law Susan Ryder and brother-in-law ML Roden. Gary was preceded in death by his infant son Randy, his father Warren and stepmother Doris, his mother Bonnie, his brother Bill, his sisters-in-law Kathy Roden and Betty Ryder, his brothers-in-law Jack Ryder, Stan Winter and Johnny Johnson.
