Gene Karl Moncur

February 28, 1936 ~ June 2, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Gene Karl (Mon) Moncur was born on February 29, 1936, in Rupert, Idaho, to Robert and Winnie Moncur. He was the first of four children. Mon grew up in Rupert and graduated from Burley High School in 1954.

In 1956, Mon entered the U.S. Army with lifelong friend Lee Scott. He served for six years as a light weapons infantryman and eventually received his parachutist badge in 1957. He served stateside and was discharged from service in 1962 as an ES Sergeant with the 101st Airborne. After his service, he moved to Baker, Oregon, where he worked as a herdsman for show cattle at the Double M Ranch. This experience stayed with him his whole life, and he loved to go to cattle shows. Mon eventually moved back to Idaho, where he became part of One Hour Martinizing. As a partner there, his job was to travel from store to store, doing maintenance and managing the stores for many years. Mon remained involved in the company for most of his life, only to step down from the board in the last couple of years.

Mon met Stella Chapman in 1974, and they were married in 1982, celebrating 35 years together before Stella passed in May 2017. She was the love of his life, and he missed her until the day he passed. One of Mon’s other great passions was Boise State football and basketball. He was a season ticket holder for 40 years and loved to travel to road games and attended both Fiesta Bowls and many bowl games in between. Mon enjoyed fly fishing and was an avid reader. He loved home cooked meals and having family dinners with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mon carried a special place in his heart for the last great-grandchild, as he was named Gene after Mon.

Mon was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Winnie, his sister Rhonda, and wife Stella. He is survived by his youngest siblings, Gayle Moncur and Jolene Teeter, his stepsons Jeff Chapman, Greg Chapman, and Rich Chapman, their spouses, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Mon will be greatly missed and be in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
