Tribute

George Ramon (Ray) Bittner passed away Monday evening, November 13, 2023 at his home in Boise, ID in the care of family and hospice. He was 89.

Born in Inman, NE May 9, 1934, Ray moved with his parents and brother to Buhl, ID. He grew up in Buhl, graduating from Buhl High School, where he played varsity sports in football, basketball wrestling and baseball. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Idaho and played on the Idaho football team for two years, before joining the US Army and serving in Germany. Upon returning from Europe, he moved to the Bay Area where he worked for Hiller Aircraft and Sylvania. He met his long-time partner and wife, Jane Arline (Bond) Bittner at this time. They married and began a family. Having lived in California for a few years, the family of four, Ray, Arline and their two sons, Michael and Kevin, moved to Twin Falls, ID. Wanting to teach and coach, Ray and the family would shift between Twin Falls, Buhl and Boise for a few years, while he completed his college education and teacher certification at Boise State University. He took his first, full-time teaching and coaching position in Twin Falls, where his daughter, Allison, was born. He taught social studies and science and coached football and wrestling in Twin Falls, Buhl and Boise until retiring. In addition, Ray enjoyed playing softball in local leagues in Twin Falls and Boise and spending time at home with family and friends playing cards and board games. As a student, alum and booster of Boise State Athletics, he looked forward to football season every year, rarely missing a game.

Ray is survived by his wife, Arline, of 64 years, sons Michael and Kevin, daughter Allison, and best friend Augi, and a host of grand dogs and cat.  The family requests anyone wishing to celebrate their connection or support of Ray Bittner send donations to the Idaho Humane Society at 1300 S Bird Street. Boise, Idaho 83709.
