Hardy "John" Privett

January 11, 1945 ~ February 9, 2021 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Tribute

Hardy John Privett was born in Heppner, Oregon to Bill and Floy (Frazier) Privett on January 11, 1945. He joined two sisters, Billie Jean (Privett) Taber, June (Privett) Brown, and a brother, Joe Privett. June, who is nine years older than John, fondly remembers him as her pesky little brother.

John lived in Heppner throughout his childhood and was always the biggest kid in his class. His size earned him the nickname of Big John. He graduated from Heppner High School where he played football, baseball, and sang in the choir. He also managed to pull off many of the usual pranks, some worse than others, that occur in high school.

After high school, John went to Links School of Business in Boise, Idaho for a year. While in Boise, John met the love of his life, Frances Carter. They were married in Boise on December 30, 1964.

John and Fran resided in Heppner, Oregon where Kim (Privett) Ospina was born in 1965, Karen (Privett) Bailey was born in 1968, and Mike Privett was born in 1971 in Hermiston, Oregon.

John loved to sing and he was an avid bowler and hunter. He enjoyed the mountains and exploring the back roads, some of which nobody in his right mind should be driving on.

In the fall of 1971 John took his family to Paul, Idaho where John worked for Kraft Foods as a mechanic for 25 years. While at Kraft, John earned the coveted Kraft Jade Ring Award for which he was very proud. John could fix anything mechanical or work at it until he did fix it. After retiring from Kraft Foods, he and his family moved to Lone, Pendleton, Hermiston, and finally settled in Umatilla, Oregon. While in Umatilla, John worked for Gilroy Foods. John and his wife have lived in Umatilla for the last 23 years. They were in the process of moving to Meridian, Idaho because of their health and in order to be closer to family when John died in Caldwell, Idaho while on their way to Meridian. John died on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. He was 76 years old.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, 3 children, 2 granddaughters and a foster grandson, 1 sister (June), and numerous nieces and nephews, one of which (Kevin) was more like a son.

John, you are sorely missed! We love you!
