Tribute

James Edward Guest, 79 of Eagle, Idaho passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023 at home surrounded by those whom he loved and adored most in this world.

Jim was born April 16, 1944 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the son of Edward Mailon Guest Jr. and Dorothy Mildred Grow Guest. Jim’s childhood was replete with outdoor adventure. His lifelong love of hunting and fishing was instilled through the time he spent with his father. He was a member of the wrestling team and played the saxophone in the school band. He graduated from Twin Falls High School Class of 1962.

After graduation he attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he studied Broadcast Communications. Jim was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled a church mission to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 64-66.

In 1967 Jim met and married Nancy Lee Roberts of Buhl, ID in the Salt Lake City Temple. Within the year, Jim enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, UT. He was recognized for his attention to detail, order, and quickly rose in leadership positions. He concluded his Air Force service as a military police officer.

Jim had a voice for broadcast. He worked at various radio stations including KEYY in Provo UT, KART and KFMA Radio in Jerome, ID as a disc jockey, announcer and sales manager. After 10 years of radio his interest in sales continued through companies including MONY Insurance, Salt Lake Hardware, Remington Guns and THB Hardware Inc.

Towards the latter end of his career Jim moved his family to Boise, Idaho. Jim was instrumental in creating a branch of THB in Boise and retired with the company after 25 years. In 2004, Jim and Nancy opened a retail franchise in Emmett and a second location in Boise, which allowed them to quickly settle into a new city.

Jim’s life was full of passions and hobbies. He was drawn to those interests requiring great precision and enjoyed learning new skills. Jim was a natural outdoorsman who enjoyed sailing his boat, catching a fish on a fly that he’d tied, a fall pheasant hunt or a simple trip to the shooting range. Jim’s love of the written word was evident by a continual rotation of books and gun magazines on his lap, nightstand or sleeping chest.

All those who knew Jim, understood him to be a man of integrity, hard work and honest to a fault. His attention to detail and his meticulous nature lent to a life of ingenuity. He rendered more than he was ever given and was a fiercely loyal husband, father and friend. His family was his world and he considered them his greatest accomplishment. Those closest to Jim appreciated his timely candor and whit. He was cheerful and continually spoke about the happiness of life.

His influence and example will forever be remembered and his legacy of devotion to those he loved will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mailon and Dorothy Guest. He is survived by his wife Nancy Guest; and his four children and their spouses: Wendy Lyda (Nathan) of Twin Falls, ID; James Guest of Lehi UT; Jill Gardner (Jeff) of Camas, WA; Lindsay Merrill (Jake) of Lehi, UT.
