Jeff Lloyd

October 20, 1961 ~ February 13, 2019 (age 57) 57 Years Old

Tribute

Jeff quietly and unexpectedly left this earth on February 13, 2019. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary and his sons, Chad, Adam and Nicholas; his parents and his four brothers—Jim, Mike, Scott and Jon. He was preceded in death by his son Kenny in 2005.

Jeff was born in Provo, UT, on October 20, 1961, the second son of Carolyn Lloyd Eliason and Gary Lloyd. He grew up in Salt Lake City in a noisy, active household of five boys. Jeff was born with an innate mechanical ability, which he continued to hone the rest of his life.

When he was just five years old, his big Christmas gift from Santa was a metal tool box with real adult-screw drivers, pliers, hammer, screws, nails and bolts along with several short pieces of new 2 by 4’s.

At 14, he was given a broken motor cycle which he took apart in his bedroom, placing all the parts on a blanket in the middle of his bedroom. To his mother’s dismay, it stayed there for years covered with various vehicle parts; the carpet was still new when he moved out. With his paper route money he purchased and restored a 1948 “woody” station wagon. When he was 16 his first love came around when he purchased his 1970 GTO Judge convertible. During his senior year, Jeff questioned his seminary teacher about the old pickup that had been sitting out in his field. The teacher said it was useless, the truck could not be fixed and Jeff could have it if he wanted it. Jeff towed the truck back to the house, made some adjustments and took it for a spin, passing his seminary teacher on the road a couple of hours after towing the “useless” pickup from the field.

Jeff served a successful two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Portland, Oregon mission. He loved serving the Lord and teaching about the gospel of Jesus Christ. After his mission he attended BYU in Provo, Utah. It was at this time, while taking a Chemistry class that he met his sweetheart, Mary Roberts. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in January, 1985. After completing school they purchased their first home in Lindon, Utah where they settled into the life of home and family. Jeff found employment with Geneva Steel. One of his co-workers took him to the go-kart track and he was hooked. He built his first kart and raced for years; he loved the competition.

In Lindon, Jeff and Mary were blessed to have two boys Kenny and Chad. He loved to work with his boys as much as he loved to play. They could often be found on Utah Lake with their wave runners. The opportunity for Jeff to own his own business came when he purchased a Snap-On Tool franchise. He worked hard with long hours, but his dedication paid off earning Rookie of the Year followed by Dealer of the Year. He earned the reputation as one of the top dealers from the Salt Lake City branch. Some of the best vacations the family enjoyed were going to the Snap-On Tool Conventions. Jeff moved his family to Boise, Idaho, after taking a position in management. However, he missed owning his own business. He continued to work a Snap-On tool franchise for over 20 years. He had a lot of customers, but even more were his friends. He loved and enjoyed so many of the men he worked with and sold tools to.

While living in Eagle, Idaho the Lloyd household was joined by two more boys, Adam and Nicholas. Having 4 boys, and being an Eagle Scout himself, the Boy Scout program was very important to Jeff. As was his competitive nature, he loved Pinewood Derby time and made his boys spend hours sanding their cars for the perfect paint job and proper aerodynamics. Jeff loved teaching the boys automotive, welding or any other skill he could contribute to help earn a merit badge. He worked with his boys and is very proud of his Eagle Scouts.

Jeff loved any school or science project the boys had where he could use his creative mind and skills. Working with his sons, no matter the project was most definitely his favorite hobby. In Jeff’s garage, you can see the projects of Kenny’s 1962 Nova, Chad’s 1969 Dodge Super Bee and Adam’s 1968 Mustang all at different stages. He passed on his love of go-karts, building sprint karts with Adam and Nicholas. His boys didn’t just jump into a race kart and drive; they were expected to maintain the carts, keep up on tires, do the oil changes and change the gears for the best performance on the track. He loved racing with his boys!

The gospel of Jesus Christ has been a staple in Jeff’s life. He has enjoyed serving in positions within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loves the people he has gotten to know while serving. He has felt inadequate and humbled in his callings which made him more approachable and loved by others. His natural sense of humor and quick wit always brought a laugh and put others at ease. While serving with the past and present Stake Presidency, his love of the gospel has grown wanting to follow their examples. He truly loved and respected the men he has had the great privilege to serve with.

All who knew Jeff will remember him for his integrity and dependability, his quick wit, and his ability to see the humor in life’s situations. His work ethic and love of old cars, Nascar, water skiing, snowmobiling, and wiliness to try any new adventure are all part of who he is. He has been loved by many and will be deeply missed.
