Tribute

Larry Richard Bird, 67, of Boise, Idaho, passed away on May 6, 2022, at St. Luke’s Regional Hospital in Boise, Idaho, surrounded by his family. Larry was born on September 3, 1954, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ray and Larene Bird. He grew up in Milo and Idaho Falls, Idaho, and graduated from Skyline High School. Larry married Janie Sessions in 1973 in Ogden, Utah, and they have been happily married for 49 years. Larry and Janie made their home in Boise, Idaho, where they raised six kids. In 2004, they built a cabin in Donnelly, Idaho, where they spent many happy years with family and friends. Larry loved spending time with family and friends horseback riding, hunting, cooking, enjoying the outdoors, entertaining, and adventuring with his grandkids.

After high school, Larry graduated from Ricks College and Idaho State University with accounting degrees. He joined Touche Ross (Deloitte), where he worked for 40 years as an auditor in Boise, Seattle, and Las Vegas. He retired as a partner in 2017.

Larry played many roles in life and was hardworking, driven, and tenacious. His family was always his first priority, and his spontaneous spirit led to fantastic adventures that truly embraced the YOLO (You Only Live Once) theme! Larry was a dreamer who loved life and genuinely enjoyed sharing his blessings and wisdom with others.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Larene Bird. He is survived by his wife Janie of Boise, Idaho; his children, Amy, Brian (Emily), Wendy (Gary), Holly (Aaron), Jeffrey (Brenna), Melanie (Jeffrey), and 27 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Sandra (Elmer) Cherry, Patty (Larry) Moore, Gordon (Julie) Bird, and Raelene (Jeff) Toulouse.

Janie and family would like to thank all those at St. Luke’s Health Systems who supported Larry in his battle with cancer. They are grateful for their remarkable and compassionate care.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Boise Interfaith Sanctuary.
