Lois Lula Phillips Vasil was born March 21, 1925, in Woodville, Idaho, at her grandparents’ home, to Virgil Phillips and Anna Lula Hammer. She attended grade school in a two-room schoolhouse in Woodville.
When she was in 8th grade, her family moved to a farmhouse near Shelley, Idaho, where she began high school. Lois finished her high school career in Santa Monica, California, after her family moved in 1941.
Upon graduation, she found employment at Douglas Aircraft Company and joined the war efforts. During World War II, she had many interesting memories, such as air raid sirens, blackouts, barrage balloons, shelling the coast near Long Beach by submarine, along with gasoline and food rationing. During this time, Lois met her first husband, Richard Bartholomew, and they were divorced two years later.
After the war ended, she was employed at the Santa Monica Evening Outlook Newspaper in the classified advertising department. While working at there, she met George Vasil, who worked in circulation. Over the next few years, their children were born: two daughters, Linda and Diane, and their son, Michael.
In 1967, they moved to Boise, Idaho, where they purchased a mobile home park. Linda married and stayed in California. Diane and Michael moved with them and attended school. Five years later, they sold the mobile home park and moved to some acreage. Lois then worked for First Security Bank of Idaho, while George worked from home.
Once Diane graduated, she went to college at BYU and later passed away in a car accident. Their son Michael graduated, attended college, and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
After the children were raised, Lois and George sold their acreage to a developer and moved to a home where they lived until George passed away in 2003. Lois then lived with her daughter, Linda, and later her son, Michael, and wife Jennifer.
Lois enjoyed having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren over to have sleepovers, make cookies, play board games (especially Scrabble), serve dessert before dinner, and go through photo albums. She also enjoyed having over home teachers and the relief society. She was a remarkable woman who loved her church and family above all.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Linda, and son, Michael (Jennifer). The following listed include grandchildren and great grandchildren:
