Sharon Haskins

September 26, 1938 ~ April 28, 2019 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Tribute

Sharon Haskins, 80, of Boise, Idaho, passed away on April 28, 2019, at home with her husband at her side. Sharon was born on September 26, 1938, in Boise, Idaho. She was adopted at birth by Eugene R. and June R. Budge. Sharon grew up in Burley, Idaho, and graduated from Burley High School. She attended classes for one year at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and one year at Boise Junior College in Boise to complete her provisional teaching certificate. She taught remedial reading in Hagerman, Idaho, for a short time after college prior to her marriage.

Sharon married L. Kent Pelton in Reno, Nevada, on October 28, 1959. They lived in California while Kent was in the Navy. They had two children, Donna Lisa Pelton, who lived only 36 hours, and David Kent Pelton, who lived 17 hours. Later, Sharon and Kent adopted Douglas Kent Pelton. Sharon and Kent were married for 12 years and divorced in 1971.

Sharon married Charles L. Haskins on February 23, 1973, in Boise, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Ogden Utah Temple. Charles adopted Douglas and had three children from his previous marriage, Kevin F. Haskins of Hansen, Idaho, Cathy L. Quinney of Eagle Mountain, Utah, and Tammy R. Parker of Boise, Idaho.

Sharon was diagnosed with diabetes at age 14. She believed “Heavenly Father has blessed me through these years, and I have seen his hand many times helping me and blessing me to be able to continue my life.” She never gave up, and she never lost her bright smile and happy personality. She always looked at the bright side of things and saw the positive. Sharon was often heard saying that she did not believe in pain, even though we knew she endured much. Sharon loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She bore her testimony easily and was always prepared with loving support to her children. Sharon has 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Sharon was legally blind but that never stopped her from blessing others. She loved to crochet, draw and play the violin; and many people have been blessed with her handiwork. Sharon was a lifelong genealogist and temple worker. Sharon and Chuck spent 12 years working together in the church German extraction program.

In 1990, at age 40, Sharon was able to meet her biological parents, Edward H. and Lydia M. “Rete” Heitzman. She learned she had two brothers and two sisters: Jon E. Heitzman of Twin Falls, Idaho, Michael A. Heitzman of Jerome, Idaho, Reta Kay Oyler of Meridian, Idaho, and Vicki White of St. George, Utah, to get to know as well. Their family reunion has continued for over 27 years.

Sharon is preceded in death by her father, Eugene R. Budge, her mother, June R. Budge, her stepmother, Leona Budge, and her parents, Ed and Rete Heitzman. Sharon was also preceded in death by all three of her children. Sharon is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles L. Haskins, her siblings and stepchildren.
