Sidney David Allred, 92, died Monday June 3, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital of old age.
Dad was born in Lewiston, Idaho and raised in the Meridian and Boise areas. He was a 2nd generation Idahoan. He was the son of Francis Lemar Allred and Elnora (Nora) Elizabeth Garlick. As a child of the Great Depression, he learned how to be frugal, make do, and the value of honesty and hard work by living and working on the family farm. Dad was willing to make any necessary sacrifices to take care of his family. Nothing made him happier than spending time with those he cared most about. When WWII started, he worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA bucking rivets, then went to work for the United Armed Forces Depot sorting merchandise that was sent overseas. He then returned to Boise and worked at Gowen Field as a tool crib worker. After the war, he went to work for E.W. Little Roofing Co. To combat slow times at work, he ran his own roofing business until he retired. He took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied.
Dad is a veteran of World War II, where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He served a year and a half in the Navy at the end of WWII. He travelled to Kwajalein Island in the Gilbert Marshall Islands on the transport ship U.S.S Golden City. He was a Seamen 1st class and was trained to repair and prep the FG-1D Corsair fighters for battle. He was affectionately known as “Pluto” in the Navy. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest.
Dad is survived by his wife, Jean, his three children: Valene Hankins (Robbin), Marlene Everitt (Wayne), Kevin Allred (Mechel) and sisters, Wanda Ausman (Glen) and Lois White (Kenneth). He also leaves behind five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Francis LeRoy (Gladys), and grandson Eric.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 2680 W. Hill Road, Boise 83703 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 2:30 pm at Dry Creek Cemetery, where he will be interred in a family plot. The family expresses our deepest appreciation and gratitude for the care and guidance given to us by the doctors, nurses and care staff at St. Luke’s Hospital on the SICU and on the 4th floor Medical Oncology units and Dr. Michael J. Kilfoyle and staff at the VA.
