Suellen Preston

Suellen Preston, 81, passed away on Thursday April 8, 2021 at Shaw Mountain of Cascadia, from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Suellen was born to Ferdinand Richard Barkley and Naomi Kathryn Notestine Barkley on March 2, 1940 in Fostoria, Ohio. Her older brother Ronald Richard Barkley and her younger brother Dean Lowell Barkley preceded her in death. She graduated from Fostoria High School in 1958.

Suellen married Carl Luther Shaw on April 11, 1959 in Fostoria, Ohio. They had four children: Cynthia Kathleen, Lori Ann, Robert Richard, and Michael Carl. The marriage ended in 1970 leaving Suellen valiantly raising her children as a single mother until marrying Paul Richard Preston in the summer of 1976. Paul and Suellen shared fun, love and laughter. They retired to Florida and she cared for him until his death from Alzheimer’s disease. She then cared for her mother until her death.

Suellen worked and retired as a machine operator in the auto parts industry and member of UAW Local-533 in Fostoria, Ohio.

Suellen was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She loved to play cards, make crafts, and sew beautiful hand stitched quilts that are treasured by the family as works of art. She was a founding member of Bowling Green Black Swamp Chapter and Quilt Foundry Chapter of quilt guilds in Ohio and of the Florida Citrus County Quilting Guild.
