Welcome to the memorial page for

Gerald "Jerry" Robert Stevens

July 21, 1939 ~ April 26, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Gerald Robert (Jerry) Stevens (77) attained eternal freedom on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Boise, ID. Rupturing his ascending aorta in Boise on October 13, 2003 started his health decline. St. Luke's Hospital (Boise), Dr. Andrew Forbes, Dr. Colin Lee, and Dr. Roger Stagg are largely responsible for his bonus years. Jerry managed to travel, enjoy his kids, grand and great grandchildren, visit numerous places across the USA and maintain a sense of humor through a variety of challenges. Always one to criticize himself, he never felt worthy of the blessings provided by his first wife Patty: his 4 children, 13 grandchildren and new great grandson. Now he is reunited with his beloved parents (Earl Spencer and Genevieve Melinda Christensen Stevens), aunts, uncles, cousins, RVers and friends, especially Raymond R. Doying.
Jerry was born July 21, 1939 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was the middle of 3 boys: Earl Leroy (DDS), and William Bruce (Wanda Faye) Stevens survive him.
Jerry leaves behind his valued and respected first wife, Patty Burbidge Stevens (Phoenix, AZ) and their four children: Pamela (Mark) Ross, 4 children and a grandson, Ft. Ann, NY; Matthew B. (Emily) Stevens, 3 children; Debra L. (Anthony) LaFord, 4 sons, Nampa, ID and Mindy A. (Ryan) O'Connor, 2 daughters, Phoenix, AZ. All were cherished gifts and the source of pride and numerous fond memories. He is also survived by his loving and caring wife, Mary Anne Kearney Stevens of Boise, ID.
Always a dedicated worker, Jerry had numerous jobs early in his life. He picked up garbage, drove a "barber green", tended Nibley Golf Course, pumped gas and serviced cars in a medical building, tended the night desk at a motel and his most hated job was cleaning a Ladies' changing rooms in a department store. (He shared this with good college friend "Egmont", Vance Rollins.)
A proud graduate of the University of Utah, Jerry went on to serve as a Revenue Agent, Lead Instructor, and Appeals Officer for the IRS in the San Jose, CA office. Jerry was very proud of his CPA membership, his Wood Badge Award from the Boys Scouts of America, his time and trips with the Gadabouts Square Dance Club (San Jose, CA) and the various commendations received as an IRS employee for over 30 years.
Because his Dad traveled as a U.S. Government employee, Jerry lived in Colorado, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada before he and Patty settled in California when he started with the IRS. Jerry's greatest joy was DRIVING: cars, trucks, station wagons, vans and ultimately a motor home. Now that his driving privileges are restored, he is escorting numerous friends and family all over!! He probably has an RV with the abilities of Harry Potter's Knight Bus.
Jerry served on the gravel lot at the University of Idaho (Moscow), helping park RVs for Life on Wheels and enjoyed even the hard times with a wonderful group there.
A memorial to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the LDS Silver Sage Ward (5645 S. Maple Grove, Boise, ID 83709). A flag ceremony and family lunch will be provided at the church following the service. Attire is "church casual": ties and skirts are optional, red (for the Utes) is recommended. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah, Boise, ID (208) 344-4441.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Make A Wish organization would be appreciated. (Make A Wish (208) 345-9474. idaho.wish.org)
