Thomas Carson Swank checked out of his earthly surroundings early Saturday, the morning of May 6, 2017, so he could go upstairs to make his bet on the Kentucky Derby. Tom was born on September 13, 1924 in Compton, California. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the marines at the age of 17. He spent most of his tours in the pacific during WWII and Korea. Tom retired with a small disability in 1953 and somehow decided to end up in Idaho. He worked for the post office and officially retired from the veteran’s admin. in supply. Tom’s hobbies included fishing, playing with the horses, and numerous trips to Nevada’s casinos. Tom pretty much outlived his friends and most of his family. He is survived by Mike and Joanne Odiaga. He was preceded in death by his wife Christine, his stepson Rich, and his mother and father. As per Tom’s request, no services will be held.
