Welcome to the memorial page for

Douglas Dwight Nelson

August 8, 1943 ~ May 13, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old
Doug passed away at his home on May 13, 2017. He had been lovingly cared for by his wife and children throughout his battle with progressive supranuclear palsy, which he endured with humility and grace. Although deeply saddened at his loss, all who loved him are thankful for the end to his suffering. Doug and Merrilee resided in Boise, ID for the last two years of his life, but spent most of their marriage in Alberta. He worked for the Canadian Federal government for his entire career and enjoyed the life-long friendships he made there. Doug was known for his stern exterior, but tender heart. He was the first to lend a hand and offer advice and he was always up for a game of cards or a trip to the grocery store. Doug had a firm faith in his Saviour and was very involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving faithfully in many church positions throughout his life. He will be missed by his wife of nearly 47 years, Merrilee; his 8 children Heather (Wynn), Larry (Sarah), Karalee (Brad), Michelle (Brad), Tim (Corrine), Rebecca (Glenn), Alana (Jarrett), Richard (Catherine); his 28 grandchildren; and the many friends he made throughout his life. Doug's legacy of faith, service, hard work and love will not be forgotten. His funeral will be held at the LDS church at 12040 W. Amity Rd. in Boise, ID on Wednesday, May 17 at 11 am with the viewing preceding it at 10 am. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all who have helped care for and pray for Doug throughout the last years of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CurePSP (www.psp.org).
