Mathew Ord Gladfelter

July 3, 1972 ~ February 9, 2018 (age 45) 45 Years Old
Mathew Ord Gladfelter died in Seattle, Washington on Friday, February 9, 2018. Matty was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 3, 1972, but spent his earliest years with his family in Missouri near his beloved grandparents. In 1986, his family moved to Washington, where he spent his teenage and adult years. From early childhood he was interested in the construction trades. He went on to be a master carpenter, forming a company with his friend Chris Phillips. Matty was an expert at exceptionally fine interior finishing work and enhanced the beauty of many Seattle homes.

Seven years ago, Matty decided to further his education. He came to Boise, Idaho and completed his bachelor of science degree in Construction Management in May of 2017. He spent his junior year as an exchange student in Germany, which he loved. He learned the German language while there. After graduation he went back to Seattle for a position in construction management. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of natural causes on February 9, 2018 in Seattle.

Matty is remembered for his quirky humor, big heart and his generosity. He helped out many people but never wanted any attention for his kind deeds. Matty was preceded in death by his grandparents, Maxine and Irl Gladfelter, Sr., his father Irl Gladfelter, Jr., and his uncle Phillip. He is survived by his mother, Barbara, his brother Allen Gladfelter, his sister Tara Bastian, half-sister Colleen Berger, uncle and aunt Gregory and Diana Gladfelter, cousins Jason and Jared Gladfelter, and step-siblings Giao Kaplan, Johnny Nguyen, Diep and Quang and their families, as well as nieces and nephews Skyler and Justine Bastian, Zachary Berger, and Brenda O’Keefe. He is also survived by his former wife Amie Broadsword, friend Kelly Hache and other friends too many to name but warmly remembered.
