Neldon Duane Oyler

Neldon Duane Oyler, 86, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Boise, Idaho, on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Neldon was born on August 9, 1930, in Loa, Utah, to Melvin Thomas and Ellen C Wilma Covington Oyler. Six years later, his first sibling was born, a sister named Marilyn Gail. Two years after that, the family was completed with the birth of a second sister, Ina. Neldon attended school in Loa, Utah. After graduation from high school, he attended Snow College in Dixie, Utah. At the age of 21, he served a 2½-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Denmark. While in Denmark, he met his future wife who was also serving a mission for the Church there. After his mission, they dated until he was drafted into the Army. Neldon was married to Vilda H Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple, where they were sealed for eternity, on July 2, 1953. After a short Honeymoon, Neldon reported to Fort Ord and Vilda went to live with her mother in Hibbard, Idaho. While serving in the Army in post-World War II Germany, his first child was born in Rexburg, Idaho. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Neldon and his small family lived in Rexburg for a while where his second child was born. They then moved to Provo, Utah, where Neldon attended Brigham Young University (BYU), majoring in horticulture and graduating with a bachelor’s degree. They moved to St. Anthony, Idaho, where Neldon worked at the State Reform School, teaching horticulture. In 1964, Neldon and his family moved to Boise, Idaho, where he taught Horticulture at Boise State University. Neldon and Vilda had nine children. Neldon loved the LDS Church and served in many callings during his life, including Bishop of the Boise 14th Ward. He loved to serve others and instilled that love of service in his children. He is preceeded in death by his parents, Melvin and Wilma Oyler; his sister, Marilyn Gail Hatch (Orville); his son, Shayne J Oyler; and a granddaughter, Lovernia Lynnette Schmidtlein. He is survived by his sister, Ina Hickman (Benny) of Loa, Utah; his wife, Vilda H Johnson Oyler of Boise, Idaho; his children: GayDawn Oyler of Boise, Idaho; Monica Clemens (Marc) of Layton, Utah; Sonja Winder (Walter) of Fallon, Nevada; Annie Lyman (Gary) of Orem, Utah; Roycee Olson of Kuna, Idaho; Mel Oyler (Christine) of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Nadine Oyler of Boise, Idaho; and Lynnette Schmidtlein (Paul) of Pocatello, Idaho; 34 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Funeral services, under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel, will be held at the LDS Chapel on Cherry Lane in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 1 p.m.
Viewing of the body and visitation with the family will be held prior to the funeral in the Relief Society Room of the Cherry Lane LDS Chapel at 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Burial will be in the Loa, Utah, Cemetery, with graveside services to be held at 1 p.m.
